"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Sofia: running around with the chooks under the pear tree. She loves this time of year for the straight-from-the-tree-fruit-eating-opportunities.
Otto: now defending himself against Sofia's frequent raspberry attacks with a bit of uncoordinated hair pulling, although he usually revels in the big-sister attention (she is just out of shot ready to lay one on him).

Sofia has started saying "stop it!" and putting her hand out (celeb style) when I try and take photos of her so I was thinking I might have to get the big lens out and employ a more paparazzi approach. Interestingly Jodi talks about cajoling Che in her post today so there may be some handy hints in the comments over there.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Sofia: obsessed with seeing photos and watching videos of herself on my iPhone - " 'Fia, 'fia, 'fia" (which is what she calls herself). Her concentration when using technology is always intense.
Otto: engaging in a favourite pastime of finger chewing.

The photo of Otto was taken while holding him and juggling the camera with one hand pointing back at him and then randomly taking snaps hoping that I would get a decent one. I wanted to capture him upright (rather than always lying around), but it is pretty tricky if Ian is not available. I still haven't found the time/headspace to take the camera off automatic. The next month sees both sets of grandparents visiting us so I hope to take the opportunity then.

Happy Birthday Sofia

Sofia is 2!

To celebrate we had the now traditional birthday lamington on her actual birthday, followed by carrot cake on the weekend when our friends Helen, John and Chiara joined us at Spring Beach (where we were holidaying for the week). Sofia has learnt to blow out candles since last year and she loves singing Happy Birthday...

Last year I did a photo-a-month montage and used it as the birthday party invite (also posted here). This year I wanted to do something similar.

When I looked back on the photos I realised
1) I took less photos this past year (I blame being pregnant for most of the year and feeling poorly and/or exhausted)
2) the photos taken deteriorated in quality, only perking up in October (my iPhone died a slow death and was replaced plus we got a new camera just prior to Otto's birth)

So the twelve photos weren't picked strictly per month (as some months were leaner than others) and I also couldn't be bothered battling a piece of graphics software this year so there will be no montage :)

A big year for our little girl. From tentative steps to galloping strides, baldy beauty to curly locks, baby babble to serious sentences and last but by no means least, only child to big sister.

Happy Birthday Sofia!

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Sofia: loves everything about the beach, here she is listening to the sand.
Otto: Mama's mouth? Daddy's brows? People love "dissecting" babies' faces.

We are just back from a week at the beach. My photos are a little late as I didn't take my laptop and couldn't be bothered trying to post from my phone.

I mentioned in this post that I find it much easier to find a photo of Sofia than Otto, but I am ashamed to admit that this week while there were many, many photos of Sofia there was only three solo shots of Otto and none of them were worth posting. I had to whip out the camera just then and do a speedy photo shoot with my little buddy. I can find many excuses - he is very little still and often being held by me, Sofia had a birthday this week and at two she is doing so much that there is wealth of photo opportunities, but (as Momma B commented on 2/52) maybe I should be taking advantage of the fact that Otto can't run away!

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Sofia: has taken to washing her bath toys when in the bath. I still can't believe how much hair she has grown in the last few months.
Otto: I love the way his little hand (complete with knuckle dimples and chubby wrist creases) grasps his Dad's jumper when he is being held.

Kangy

Last Monday after lunch I took Sofia out for a walk in the pram to try to get her to nap (she didn't). When we were walking back up the driveway at home we disturbed a wallaby which hopped away across our front lawn. We were very lucky that it didn't just hop straight into the bushes but sat out and let Miranda take lots of photos and even some video.

Lots of people in Hobart have wallabies in their yard if they live further out or next to some bushland but it was a big surprise to see a wallaby in the middle of suburban Sandy Bay. Perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised, it's only a few hundred metres to a patch of bush near UTAS where I have seen wallabies and bettongs before.

Sofia was very excited by "Kangy" and a couple of times since has asked where Kangy is (she loves watching the video). We saw it again that evening, but haven't seen it since.  It has probably moved on, but we will keep an eye out for it.
